S1 and I were discussing new painting ideas back in June or July, and the idea came up for buying some metallic paints. The Vallejo yellow I had was fluorescent and even the Loew-Cornell paints were more "race-car" than "24 karat". I ended up buying silver, gold, and bronze from mfpilot on EBay, with each bottle costing about $4 (with significant S/H). The silver added some nice touches to weapons and armor, but my main memory is clogging the nozzle and squeezing until the cap blew off. I'm sure that I was the only person who didn't see that coming - the comedic effect could only have been better if I had been looking down the barrel. This left me with a substantial amount of (expensive) silver paint to use, so after I finished detailing some metallic items, I decided to mix it with some colors just to see what I could get (since it was effectively ruined already. The mixture of silver and color produced some striking effects, particularly a metallic pastel that dried to a smooth and shiny coat. I'm pleased with the effect on some of my aquatic figures; if I can get another bottle at a reasonable price, I'll do more experimentation. The gold and bronze I have only begun to use recently, and will comment on later.
