This is the Chainsaw Sword guy from a previous post; I thought that the red looked too flat, so I used some leftover red/black mixture to spackle in some missed locations. There are a few ways that effect could have turned out nicely; maybe like dark coals with glowing embers lining the cracks and crevices, or maybe even like he had an infernal case of leprosy. Even if it were done well, I'm afraid that the pieces doesn't have enough detail to support a variegated color scheme. I wish he didn't have this giant silver codpiece up his abdomen, like a hulking demon stuffed into Steve Urkel's pants, so that I could at least paint some abs on the guy. I'll have to decide if I want to try to continue to touch up the current paint job by S1, or scrap it and restart. |
The Shadow Demon is also from a previous post. I haven't done much with him besides the one coat, but it's a very interesting effect. I was curious if there were any colors I couldn't mix silver paint with for a gloss, so I tried silver and black. The black paint I have is really saturated and I have to be sparing when darkening other colors, but still i was surprised that it soaked up a drop of silver without any appreciable lightening. The texture is, in my opinion, really outstanding and dried to a gloss while retaining its deep black color. I think the appearance is that of obsidian and is pretty keen. The problem is that the Shadow Demon is composed of roiling smoke or mist, as can be seen at his base; a flat black, mixed with some grey, would have been more thematic. I may try to make some streaky gray to paint the wispiness at the base and leave the character shiny black. Maybe I can get the effects to meld in the middle? |
