This Wildkin was based in a flesh color (which can still be seen on the antlers) and then given a wash of orange-brown. The flesh color still shows through on the highest parts while the brown has settled in to the lowest parts. My plan going forward was to use a Thanksgiving turkey color scheme of red, orange, yellow, and brown.
I painted the head feathers brown-black and completely painted over the base. It makes the Wildkin Shaman appear to have hair, or at least more humanoid. The beak was originally orange, but I painted it yellow to match the talons. The yellow did a poor job of covering the orange-brown beneath, which was disappointing.
If you look above at the previous iteration, I had simply painted over these elements. The character is certainly richer now that I've painted these elements, although I think the sculpt has a few too many braids. I couldn't decide what was in the braids - skulls would be appropriate, but they look like dice. I decided they were bone "something" and painted them white, which seems to create too stark a contrast now.
An extra coat of yellow improved the beak and talons considerably, and I've cleaned up the antlers as well.
