The painted miniatures are very nice, in terms of both the sculpt and the paint job. The early Dungeon Command sets reused sculpts from the D&D miniatures line (and hence the D&D Adventure System). For instance, the Heart of Cormyr set mostly has the heroes from Castle Ravenloft and Wrath of Ashardalon. Blood of Gruumsh has all new sculpts, which reputedly are showcasing the new artistic direction for orcs in D&D Next. The color scheme is dark, with shades of blue, green, and brown. I'm not used to seeing blue-skinned orcs, but they look good. The Owlbear and Ogre are large pieces, whose bases cover 4 squares instead of 1. The figures are heavy and have a high gloss. D1 plays Blood of Gruumsh with me, not necessarily w/ enthusiasm. "Party at the pass, everybody be there, don't miss it!" | In my review of Dungeon Command I described how the game system plays. Dungeon Command has the option to split the box into two factions (gold and silver) so that the game is playable right out of the box. Having played this way a few times has helped me to gain an appreciation for the parts, since you see all of them. Here are some of my observations:
