Books: I am reading through the Planes of Chaos expansion box for the AD&D Planescape world. I also read Ultimate Galactus sometime in the past 8 weeks; I really like the Ultimate Fantastic Four, which is one of the few comic series that I actually follow (along with Hellboy and Irredeemable). This book is a cross-over between the Ultimate universe versions of Marvel storylines. I can't bear the reimagining of the X-Men (as I'm sure that FF fans feel about their characters) but the other Marvel lines were all pretty good. The portrayal of Galactus was uninteresting - a lot more could have been done with the concept, which differed significantly from Jack Kirby's incarnation. A cool book but it was more form than substance. This review is spot in, IMHO.
Games: Still playing World of Warcraft card game with S1. The scheme where he earns TV time for playing, and bonus TV time for winning, has made for interesting and competitive games. We played Sting of Lolth today, which is another game in the Dungeon Command series (like Blood of Gruumsh). I've had it sitting unopened for quite awhile, but S1 and I got it out today because board games count for double TV time compared to card games. Like Heart of Cormyr, yet another Dungeon Command game, the components are warping atrociously. I had to get one of my Lucite plates from my wargames collection to hold the map down, and the cards curled like taco shells. The Drow characters in this game are much more maneuverable than the pieces in other entries in the series, but they don't hit nearly as hard. I lost quite badly to S1 and I suspect that I don't know how to fully utilize the speed of the figures. S1 was very successful at utilizing the cower mechanic, so it was a two-pronged loss.
DVDs: Finished Pokemon: orange islands, watching Nova and Nature recording on our cable DVR. A friend at work suggested I use the Youtube functionality on my blu-ray box to search for documentaries that interest me. I have found a few, but the search function for You-tube through the TV has very poor results compared to the computer. Maybe the algorithm is different, or maybe there is some limiter on the returns to keep me from enjoying it too much? Who knows.
