Week 25: June 23 - June 29, 2014
Games: Unlike last week, we got a lot of games out. The kids have been on a TransAmerica kick lately...I remember that, when I bought it, I though it was decent filler between games. Players have destination cards in 5 regions: the East Coast, the South, the upper Midwest, the Plains, and the West Coast. They lay tracks on routes between cities to connect all of their destinations. There are little wooden trains, but they are only used for scoring. ANyway, the kids really love it and they enjoy teaming up against mean ol' Dad. S1 and I also played Ninjaburger once, which is a game that got thrown into some order I placed many years ago. I don't care for it, but S1 finds the cards amusing (it is a Steve Jackson game after all...) My big accomplishment is playing Ancient Terrible Things, which is a game I helped create (or at least fund it when they needed money to create the game). It is produced by a company in South Africa and funded on Kickstarter July 2013, and of all the projects I've backed on Kickstarter it is the only one I've received yet (and Horror on the Orient Express funded Sept. 2012, so I've been waiting a loong time for that one). I intend to write a review of Ancient Terrible Things, so all I'll say for now is that S1 won, then said he would never play again (but he did, one week later... stay tuned!)
DVDs: For our 13th wedding anniversary, we went tree-shopping, ate at Dairy Queen, and watched The Lego Movie. The kids were super excited to see it and wanted it for a few months. My wife and I consider our anniversary to be the "family birthday" so we try to do something as a family. The Lego Movie was cute and goofy, and looked more like real blocks being manipulated than some of the Lego-themed movies (like Lego Batman). The voice acting was very good with some big names like Morgan Freeman and Will Ferrell. I'll probably write a review of this as well.
